About Catherine Lamy

Since her professional operatic debut in 1978 with the Cleveland Opera in La Boheme, Peabody-born soprano Catherine Lamy has sung a wide range of roles throughout the U.S. and Europe.

She made her New York City debut in 1982 and was immediately honored as the Gold Debut Artist for that season. Her annual appearances at City Opera included productions of La Traviata, Pagliacci, Madame Butterfly and The Magic Flute.

Her European debut occurred as Nedda in Pagliacci in Italy to which she returned in the summer of 1983 in the title role of the controversial Ken Russell production of Madama Butterfly at the Spoleto Festival.  During the 1986-87 season she sang Micaela in the much-heralded Peter Brook La Tragedie de Carmen throughout Italy and Germany.

Other U.S. credits include works as Otello, Die Fledermaus, Les Pecheurs de Parles, Simon Boccanegra, The Merry Widow, La Contes d’Hoffmann, Peter Grimes, Faust, Madame Butterfly, La Traviata, and La Boheme.

Catherine attended Boston Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute. She resides in Florida.
