Safe Haven Ballet presents their spirited, full-length ballet of The Nutcracker to The Larcom Theatre! This dynamic performance includes all your favorite characters, including a strong-minded Clara to the eccentric Drosselmeyer, the spooky Rats, and our beloved Sugarplum Fairy danced by artistic director Lissa Curtis. In the Land of Sweets, we will introduce you to a variation unique to Safe Haven Ballet called The Brave American. Come sing and clap along to this spirited, patriotic piece!

Safe Haven Ballet is a 501(c)(3) professional ballet company and pre-professional school in beautiful Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We offer free trauma-sensitive classes to survivors of sexual/domestic violence and trauma. Many brave survivors will be in the production as they help bring the magic of the season to you. LISSA CURTIS | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Lissa is the director of Safe Haven Ballet and has been dancing professionally since high school with training across New England, including programs at Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and Burklyn Ballet Theatre. She is a wife, mother, black belt, online health and wellness business owner, and sought-after guest speaker to advocate against sexual violence with her personal story and message of “Be BRAVE and speak your truth.” She holds a comprehensive certification in classical Pilates from Peak Pilates. She has a double major B.S. in Kinesiology: Exercise Science and B.A. in Theatre and Dance from the University of New Hampshire. Lissa was a principal dancer with Northeastern Ballet Theatre for over a decade, performing coveted principal roles such as Lucy in Dracula, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Laurencia in The Pirate and the Gypsy, and the Evil Queen in Snow White. She also performed main/title roles in Sleeping Beauty, The Snow Queen, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and The Nutcracker. She is also an accomplished choreographer and has choreographed more than ten full-length musicals and now full-length productions and repertoire for Safe Haven Ballet since 2019.
